Heritage of Joy king Lau 1977

Established in 1977, Joy King Lau has been a cornerstone of Chinatown’s dining scene for nearly five decades. From the beginning, the restaurant was part of a wider movement that helped shape the local Chinese community, with its founder, Norman Han, also involved in the early formation of the Chinatown Chinese Association.
Joy King Lau quickly became one of Chinatown’s most recognisable destinations and today proudly stands as its longest-established restaurant. For almost 50 years, it has welcomed both local residents and visitors from around the world. The much-loved dim sum menu continues to offer outstanding value, while the extensive main menu reflects the depth, tradition, and variety of Chinese cuisine.
Over the last 49 years, Joy King Lau has built a loyal following, serving three generations of customers. “We’ve seen our customers’ children’s children coming in, which is a wonderful reflection of how long we’ve been here,” says Norman Han.
Today, Joy King Lau continues its tradition under the management of Vince Gu, supported by an experienced team dedicated to preserving the restaurant’s heritage while thoughtfully evolving to meet modern expectations. With strong foundations built on quality, consistency, and community, Joy King Lau proudly moves forward into its fifth decade, remaining at the heart of Chinatown’s culinary heritage.
